Istanbul

‘An extraordinary and transcendentally beautiful book… It is a long time since I have read a book of such crystalline originality, or one that moved me so much.’ (Katie Hickman)

In this book, Pamuk takes a backseat as the enchanting city of Istanbul becomes both the author and the central character. Pamuk’s honesty in this memoir comes out in a rather frank way. He shares how the people of Istanbul are trapped between the two worlds, the so called West and East. He himself has been raised in a Western way, by which he encountered many great authors that influence him.

‘As a Turk, a painter and — eventually — a writer, the journey Pamuk depicts in Istanbul lies between what many outsiders, in his sardonic bservation, “like to call East and West,” but which he terms past and present…’ New York Times’ review
